Sukhumi Headquarters

The UN compound in Sukhumi is home to the Chief Military Observer and his deputy. Currently there are 29 UNMOs, 56 international and 75 local civilian staff based here. All incoming UNMOs, civilian police officers and civilian personnel undergo mission specific training at the headquarters to familiarize themselves with the various activities and components of the Mission.

The Sukhumi headquarters is the operational nerve centre of the Mission where the operations section carries out planning and coordination of the daily and periodic patrols, including those to the Kodori Valley, that form an essential part of the Mission’s mandate.
