Mr. Vladlen Stefanov
Head of UNOMIG's Human Rights Office
Vladlen Stefanov has been in charge of UNOMIG's Human Rights Office since August 2004. Before that he served as Senior Political Affaires Officer in the Security Council Affairs Division at the Department for Political Affairs in the UN Headquarters, New York. Mr. Stefanov's first UN field assignment was from 2000 to 2002 as head of field office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Podgorica, Montenegro.
Prior to joining the United Nations, from 1987 to 1999, Mr. Stefanov served in the diplomatic service of Bulgaria as Counsellor (1998-99) and Second Secretary (1991-94) at the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York; First (1995-97) and Third (1990-91) Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In 1988-89 he was Attache at the Embassy in Havana, Cuba.
An LL.M. in International Law, Mr. Stefanov has completed study programmes and trainings in human rights and conflict resolution. Born in 1961, he is married and has a son.
